Dover & Clover was the only Boltinoff creation ever to appear on a DC cover - it took that spot away from Green Arrow in 1945.ĭover & Clover ended in 1947, and the rest of Boltinoff's longer work was gone soon after. Also, for More Fun Comics, he created a feature called Dover & Clover, about a pair of identical twins who went into the detective business, and were so bad at it, they couldn't be fully relied on to detect which was which. Following the success of Archie, DC was publishing quite a bit of teenage humor, and Boltinoff did several stories for Buzzy, Leave It to Binky, A Date with Judy and other titles in that line. In the mid-1940s, Boltinoff started doing longer stories for DC. ![]() Henry later said having his brother as an editor never made it easier to sell a page - harder, if anything, with both striving to avoid any appearance of favoritism. Murray Boltinoff spent most of his career at DC, editing such titles as Challengers of the Unknown, Legion of Super Heroes and Doom Patrol. When Ellsworth complained (as editors often do) of overwork, Henry Boltinoff suggested his brother, Murray, as an assistant. The only certainty was that practically every DC comic book would contain something by Henry Boltinoff. They were mixed randomly, with "On the Planet Og" sometimes turning up in Tomahawk and sometimes in Tales of the Unexpected and "Hy Wire" sometimes in Strange Adventures and sometimes in Superman. They began seeing print in 1940, and continued for decades.Ĭasey the Cop, Super Turtle, Jerry the Jitterbug, Homer, Doctor Rocket, Moolah the Mystic, Cora the Carhop, Little Pete, Chief Hot Foot these are only a few of the characters Boltinoff created for DC. Ellsworth gave him a go-ahead to submit fillers, ranging from half-page gags to tiny stories in the 2-3 page range. Two years after that, he called on Whitney Ellsworth, DC's editor, whom he'd come to know while making the magazine rounds, and asked for steady work. Then he freelanced for magazines, selling hundreds of cartoons to Esquire, The Saturday Evening Post, Ladies' Home Journal etc. He worked there from 1933 until the paper folded, in 1937. He was a professional cartoonist before he was out of his teens, drawing pictures for the theatre section of The New York American, where his brother, Murray, was an assistant editor. And tho generations of comic book readers know him almost exclusively for his DC work, the vast majority of his millions of fans know absolutely nothing about anything he's done in comic books.īoltinoff was born in 1914 in New York City. ![]() Henry Boltinoff never worked on Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman or any of the other long-lasting and numerous superheroes thatįorm the bulk of DC Comics' output over the past two-thirds of a century - and yet, his work has probably appeared in more individual DC issues than that of any other creator. By 1885, the first residential and commercial buildings were established in Cape Charles along with a volunteer fire department, a newspaper, a school, and multiple churches. Trains soon arrived daily from New York, and the Eastern Shore’s towns prospered as their produce could easily be exported to metropolitan areas. Within six months, two passenger steamers, as well as specially designed railroad freight barges, were regularly making the 36-mile Bay crossing. The original layout of the town is still visible today.īy October 1884, the railroad’s first passenger and freight trains began running. ![]() Seven avenues extending from east to west were named for Virginia statesmen the streets extending north and south were named for fruits and trees. In 1884, Scott commissioned two engineers to do the official mapping of the town, which was approximately 136 acres divided into 644 equal lots. From its very conception, Cape Charles was a planned community. Of this land, 136 acres went to create the town of Cape Charles. In 1883, Scott purchased three plantations comprising approximately 2,509 acres from the heirs of former Virginia Governor Littleton Waller Tazewell. It was this new railroad line that led to the establishment of Cape Charles. Their goal: to establish a route that could move goods transported by rail across the Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk. Scott (a congressman from Erie, Pennsylvania) and Alexander Cassatt (then an engineer with Pennsylvania Railroad) hatched a plan to extend the existing Pennsylvania Railroad line another 65 miles from Pocomoke, Maryland to a point on the Chesapeake Bay. ![]() But change was on the horizon - within just a few years, the Bay Coast Railroad would transform the area from a small agricultural community to a bustling railroad town. Back then, the land that would become the town of Cape Charles was nothing more than farmlands and wetlands. ![]() As a wonderful alternative to iFlicks Windows, this program has the features of adding metadata to the videos and converting any videos to iTunes preferred formats. To save your precious time, here we directly introduce Faasoft iFlicks for Windowsto you. Therefore, Windows users dig deep to find out a powerful software tool that equivalent to iFlicks rather than just bemoan. However, such a useful tool as iFlicks only has Mac version and there is no plan to develop a Windows version yet. Better still, iFlicks is developed with a gorgeous interface and pretty simple to use. It can also process videos in certain folders and use AppleScript automatically. The second main function of adding metadata to your favorite shows and automatic looking for movie metadata from The Movie Database is really worthwhile mentioning since this function makes your movie look great and watching movies easily. And before the conversion, you can embed subtitles into videos to make it more special. ![]() It has the ability of handling all common video formats and containers and audio formats to iTunes more compatible formats. Why? Let's first analyze the three main functions of iFlicks. I’m glad I finally decided to check it out again - it’s sure been nice to get “serving me media” off my main machine’s plate.Once you own iFlicks, managing video, TV show and iTunes library has never been easier-even. Thanks to Casey Liss and Merlin Mann for both extolling the virtues of Plex over the past few months. A few hours of work and a few bucks on software well spent. Combining these few little tricks with Otomatic - which can download files from RSS feeds - and I’ve been able to automate a whole bunch of tasks that I used to babysit and manually hover over just to make sure everything got where it needed and had the proper metadata added. Those folders, of course, are the Plex Library folders - so once the file gets added to Plex it gets categorized, has subtitles, descriptions, and artwork added, and becomes perfectly organized and ready to watch. ![]() Hazel watches that folder for new files and pulls out just the media file, deletes the rest of the crap, and uses a few rules to find out if it’s a movie or TV show before moving it to the correct folder. I can toss a torrent file into that folder from anywhere (by just downloading it from my desktop or using a Workflow on iOS) and Hazel will see it, open it in Transmission, and then download whatever it is into a staging folder. With Dropbox I can put files into a “receiving” folder which Hazel watches on the server. Then, using a combination of Dropbox, Otomatic, Transmission, and Hazel, I was able to automate adding media into Plex. The apps let you watch your media from anywhere with an internet connection and with the Plex Pass service you can easily sync to an iPhone or iPad for offline viewing. So, the server works, the web interface isn’t bad, the Apple TV app itself is great, and the iOS apps are impressive as well. This means I can easily add more storage later through external drives. Setting up the server software is easy and I love the idea of being able to point it at specific folders full of movies, TV shows, and home videos. This way I could run the entire thing headless in the closet and set it up for one purpose only: serving Plex. I had an older Mac Mini that I repurposed as my new media server. Not only is the native Apple TV app one of the better apps I’ve seen on the device, it, like Apple Music, is only going to get better (Siri search, universal search, etc.). So, after hearing basically everyone gush about Plex over the past few weeks, and reading the reviews about the new native app for the new Apple TV (which I really love), I decided it was worth giving it another look. However, recently I felt like I was spending more time managing and organizing the files while troubleshooting weird network issues (like stuff not showing up if the computer had been asleep too long). I used iFlicks 2 for adding metadata to any extra media I had in my collection, and, all-in-all it worked pretty well. Instead, for the past few years, I’ve been using the old Apple TV with Home Sharing through iTunes. I liked the basic idea but this was before the wave of little pucks attached to TVs really took off and it was cumbersome to get it to work right. I had tried Plex about six or so years ago and it didn’t seem for me. And with Apple TV’s new top shelf, you can see your featured Plex content right on your Apple TV home screen. Now, finding what you want is easier and more simple than ever before. The new Apple TV interface, married with our own design touches, gives you the slickest navigation and search experience yet, showcasing all of your media in an elegant and intuitively organized way. ![]() MGP Ingredients' MGP Indiana ( Lawrenceburg, Indiana).Kirin's Four Roses Distillery ( Lawrenceburg, Kentucky).Heaven Hill's Bernheim Distillery ( Louisville, Kentucky).Diageo's George Dickel Distillery ( Tullahoma, Tennessee).Campari's Wild Turkey Distillery ( Lawrenceburg, Kentucky).Brown–Forman's Brown–Forman Distillery ( Shively, Kentucky), Jack Daniel Distillery ( Lynchburg, Tennessee), and Woodford Reserve Distillery ( Versailles, Kentucky).Beam Suntory's Booker Noe Distillery ( Boston, Kentucky), Jim Beam Distillery ( Clermont, Kentucky), and Maker's Mark Distillery ( Loretto, Kentucky). ![]() Thirteen large distilleries owned by eight companies produce over 99% of the whiskey made in the U.S. We appreciate their willingness to allow us to review their product with no strings attached.Main article: American whiskey A selection of Bourbons and Tennessee whiskeys offered at a liquor store in Decatur, Georgia If anything, give it a try if you see it on the shelf at your local bar.ĭisclaimer: Special thanks to High West Distillery for providing Bourbon & Banter with a sample of their whiskey. The rye whiskey also comes from MGP, with a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% barley. The bourbon comes from MGP and has a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% barley. The proportions? Top secret.Īccording to High West, all three whiskeys are not chill-filtered, or carbon-treated, and all three are sourced. The accent (Satchmo’s gravelly voice!) is smoke from a peated scotch whisky. The enhancing flavor (or harmony) is floral fruity spice from a mature rye whiskey. The combination of melon and sweet smoke really worked – so (naturally…) David thought why not mix sweet bourbon and peat? The main flavor (or melody) is sweet honey from a ripe bourbon. That was the most unusual, delicious and memorable ending to a dinner they had ever had. The great ladies that made the meals were simmering a bottle of peated whiskey and sugar! Later that night, they brought out dessert of ripe honeydew drizzled with the peated syrup. Here’s more info from High West’s website: One morning at the Bruichladdich distillery B&B, High West Founders David and Jane Perkins smelled peat in the air. High West Distillery in Park City, Utah decided to find out. So what happens when you blend bourbon, rye, and Scotch whiskeys into one? Personally, I prefer bourbon, especially those with a higher rye content that probably explains why I love a good rye whiskey as well. You might favor a particular style, but you occasionally dip your tastebuds in other styles. If you’re anything like me, you enjoy a wide variety of whiskeys. ![]() The vehicle is quite wide, so the living space is ample. ![]() The interior of her build is extra bright, thanks to the white furniture and roof.
